🐾 Case Study: Sunny 🐾

Sunny is a 7.5 year old spayed Beagle who presented to our Casterton clinic with significant neck pain. She was diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease by Dr Nicola, with a disc extrusion at C5–C6 causing spinal cord compression. Unfortunately, her condition was not responsive to medical management.

Sunny was referred to GARS for a ventral slot surgery to relieve the pressure on her spinal cord. We’re pleased to report that her surgery went very well!
In the images shared below, we’ve circled the affected vertebrae. You can see the mineralised discs on X-ray, however the spinal cord compression itself can only be diagnosed with advanced imaging such as CT or MRI.

Here she is at her final check-up bright, happy, and pain-free šŸ’›

Cases like Sunny’s are a wonderful reminder of how advanced veterinary care and timely intervention can make such a positive difference to our patients’ quality of life. 🐶
